Christian-Muslim Relations: Understanding Each Other

In this action, find questions you can ask Christians and Muslims to better understand their faith.

The best way to learn about someone else's religion is to ask them directly. Even though we may have some knowledge, clarification from those who practice the religion is always beneficial. But sometimes it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Here are a few questions to get conversation rolling in a way that helps us move past tolerance into understanding and celebrating each other.

Questions to ask Muslims:

  • What role does Jesus have in your faith? What role does Muhammad have in your faith?
  • What role does prayer play in your spiritual life?
  • What do you consider scripture? What role does your scripture play in your spiritual life?
  • Why do Muslim women choose to wear an hijab?
  • What branch of Islam are you a part of? How is it unique?

Questions to ask Christians:

  • What role does Jesus have in your faith? What does his crucifixion and resurrection mean to you?
  • What denomination are you a part of? How is it unique?
  • What Christian traditions play a central role in your faith? How do you celebrate them?
  • What role does scripture have in your spiritual life?
  • What do your worship services look like?
