Humility: The Middle Road of Being

"I am as I am in the eyes of God. Nothing more. Nothing less." - St. Francis of Assisi

Humility: The Middle Road of Being

"I am as I am in the eyes of God. Nothing more. Nothing less." - St. Francis of Assisi

Reflecting on the words from Dane Anthony, use the image above as a visual to delve into the ways we see ourselves as creations of God.

  • Find a place to center yourself - a place that is comfortable. Take a deep breath.

  • Focus on the small circle.  Think about ways we diminish ourselves as less than a creation of God.  Think about ways other people tell us that we are less than.  How does that make us feel? What are our reactions (physical, emotion, spiritual, etc.)?

  • Focus on the large circle. Think of the ways we elevate ourselves to the point of pride and self-interest.  Think about how other people do this in all its various forms.  Why do we elevate ourselves over others? How does this make us feel?

  • Focus on the arrow and the road. How do we find a balance? How do we look at ourselves and say we are no less than our created selves and no more than the wonders of God?
